چکیده

We consider multi-receiver networks with diversity reception from an information-theoretic point of view. In particular we nd their capacity and investigate how the frequency spectrum should be allocated to the users. We conclude that eecient transmission schemes cannot be built based on re-use partitioning and therefore advocate a spread spectrum approach. We also show that diierences in received power levels can be exploited to advantage in multi-access coding and suggest that diversity reception should play an important role. Finally, we consider a sequence of random networks (to include mobility and fading) and show that a notion of network capacity emerges as a law of large numbers.

Towards an information theory of large networks: an achievable rate region

We study communication networks of arbitrary size and topology and communicating over a general vector discrete memoryless channel. We propose an information-theoretic constructive scheme for obtaining an achievable rate region in such networks. Many well-known capacity-defining achievable rate regions can be derived as special cases of the proposed scheme. A few such examples are the physicall...

Cochannel Interference Mitigation and Cooperative Processing in Downlink Multicell Multiuser MIMO Networks

Recently, the remarkable capacity potential of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication systems was unveiled. The predicted enormous capacity gain of MIMO is nonetheless significantly limited by cochannel interference (CCI) in realistic cellular environments. The previously proposed advanced receiver technique improves the system performance at the cost of increased receiver...

Algorithms and architecture for multiusers, multi-terminal, multi-layer information theoretic security

As modern infrastructure systems become increasingly more complex, we are faced with many new challenges in the area of information security. In this thesis we examine some approaches to security based on ideas from information theory. The protocols considered in this thesis, build upon the “wiretap channel,” a model for physical layer security proposed by A. Wyner in 1975. At a higher level, t...

Fundamentals of Multi-User MIMO Communications

In recent years, the remarkable promise of multiple-antenna techniques has motivated an intense research activity devoted to characterizing the theoretical and practical issues associated with multiple-input multiple-output wireless channels. This activity was first focused primarily on single-user communications but more recently there has been extensive work on multi-user settings. The aim of...

Modeling gene regulatory networks: Classical models, optimal perturbation for identification of network

Deep understanding of molecular biology has allowed emergence of new technologies like DNA decryption.  On the other hand, advancements of molecular biology have made manipulation of genetic systems simpler than ever; this promises extraordinary progress in biological, medical and biotechnological applications.  This is not an unrealistic goal since genes which are regulated by gene regulatory ...
